Unit 5

01
Bust
so for this one i started out very very low motivation, but i wanted to still try so i started out by wedging my clay, and I brought my toilet paper roll to support it, I put my clay around it and tried to mold it to my hands to make it out to be like a bust but it wasn't working so I restarted, I then wedged and tried to mold it again but it failed so I gave up! in the end I didn't have high hopes for this project so I wasn't too upset when it kept failing,
02
Current artist inspired piece
for this project i didnt know exactly which artist i wanted to do because i dont know any current artists so i went on Pinterest and found this willow tree painting, but i couldn't find any credits, so googled it and found a similar painting. i tried to fuse the two together. i started out by wedging my clay then using the slab roller because i just wanted to have a flat easy surface to paint on, i then let it bone-dry and began to underglaze it. i mixed two light and dark blue glazes to give the affect of the sky coming closer to the ground, i then used a mix of a brown and green to give a darker grass, then used the brown for the tree, and began streaking the leaves on lightly so you could still see tree, then as i moved left i mixed the greens to go a little darker as shown in the painting, then i finished it off and fired it twice! after it came out i feel like it looks ok just a little bad because the transparency of the greens didn't really go through but it did help me improve my painting skills!

alebrijes
ok so sadly this is the only picture i have of it. but i started didnt have any inspiration for this piece i did watch ayla make hers and i decided i wanted to do a sea animal aswell! so i started by wedging my clay and rolling it into a slab then cut out a sort of turtle shape i then used some of the excess clay to roll into a ball and lift up the shell so it looked like one! i then let it dry took the ball out and let it bonedry i then painted it in black underglaze then used all sorts of underglazes for the polka dots mainly brighter pale colors, i then set it down and the arm broke off. so i decided to just keep it because why not! but i am happy with how this piece turned out as the colors did make it pop but i wish i had the second arm. but thats neither here or there.
04
useful piece
for this piece i already had an idea of what I wanted... a bowl for my mac and cheese! so I grabbed a water bowl and wedged my clay then slabbed it, then molded it over the bowl! i then dried it out a little bit then took the bowl out and let it bonedry. I then did a coat of white underglaze and then used a brush to paint yellow macaroni noodles in the bowl! i am very happy with how this piece turned out because it fits my mac and cheese and its so cute omg, but it did shrink a little in the kiln but that's fine! minimalistic but cute!

05
wall hanging
so for this project i didnt have any inspiration but i knew i wanted to do a miffy, which is a character from a dutch series of books! i wanted to make a miffy wall hanging for my sister because it was for her birthday and she loves miffy. so i started with wedging my clay, and then rolling a slab, i cut out a weird sort of shape so i could fit the character on it. i put a hole through the top so that a nail could fit through. i then let it bonedry and did a black border, then painted on the miffy, i painted the feet white, then the dress a light pink. i fired it and i noticed that the pink was very light and it couldve used a better coat, i also wished i painted the whole background white as the feet are different from the hands but its ok! i gave it to my sister and she loved it!
06
choice project
for this project, i wanted to make a thing I could hang from my car, but was also a little bit inspired by like surfing because I always see people surfing on westcliff and think its interesting and cool. i started by wedging my clay, and rolling a slab, I decided on a surfboard so I cut out a small surfboard and poked a hole on the top of it so I could hang it up, I then let it bonedry. i underglazed it white then used the royal blue underglaze because I really like that color combo, and painted half of a turtle on it! i think it turned out well, and I have yet to hang it up...
