Unit 4

01
Series of 4 using Slab construction
for this project I started with the idea of making 4 cups for all of my siblings in hopes of giving them during chirstmas but was too late, nonetheless I went on with the idea. I found a mold of a glass bottle with nylon, I wedged my clay then rolled it out into a slab, I then used my mold to see how much of the slab I needed then cut my edges using a ruler. I then used a edge tool to cut even edges and scored and slipped the slab together, I then pulled the mold out of the cylinder slab and used my excess slab to create my base. after they were fired once I decided to use a bunch of different crystal over glazes for fun, they all turned out cool but they were too late for Christmas so I gave them to my sister that moved out! i think that they turned out ok, they glazes arent the cutest but they are pretty much identical by shape so it worked!
02
lidded box
for this project i didnt have any inspirations but I knew I wanted some sort of box to contain my camera accessories so I knew how big I wanted it. i start by as usual wedging my clay then I rolled out a slab and cut out 5 squares that are the same length and scored and slipped them together sort of like slanted so they would seam together easier. i then used some of my excess clay to create the lid and measured it to be sure that it would fit and created a lip down so that I can stay in place, I then made a mini handle for the lid and fired it separately. once it came out the kiln the lip down was broken off as if I didn't score and slip it but I did so whatever, but I used ALOT of crystal glaze in hopes of it melting together to make the lid still usable and it did work but it has a weird texture. i like how this piece turned out I just wish I could've fixed how it broke apart because it sucked up all the glaze on the bottom of the lid.

03
monster
for my monster i looked at my kids drawing and decided to just do exactly what they drew, so I started by wedging my clay and took a chunk and rolled a piece until it looked like a snake and started to shape the tail and face, then let it bonedry. i then realized I should've added some texture so I tried to carve it into the snake but it was too fragile so I stopped and decided to just under glaze the tail and the face then just used all sorts of different colors and underglazes to show the variety of colors they put into the photo, I then fired it clear glazed it and fired it again. my student was happy about it I think but I wish I put more effort into it as it didn't turn out how I wanted it too.
04
handle on a piece
for this project I did not have any inspiration but I knew that I wanted to make a cup since my last project was too big, so I began with wedging my clay and rolling it into a slab then I smoothed it out, and used a small glass bottle as a mold and wrapped my slab around it and scored and slipped it together, I then used the excess clay to score and slip the base on. i then smoothed it out and used more excess clay to make the handle, I knew I wanted it to be wide as my last one was too small for my hand so I made sure my hand could fit in it. Zoe came in and made me a little duck so I scored and slipped it on, I then let it bonedry and underglazed the duck and some hearts on it. i then fired it and clear glazed it then fired it again. i think that it turned out really well the duck is adorable and I love it.
